As students we have had a lot on our plates; however, I’ve found that there are certain strategies that help me manage time and energy levels effectively. Here are seven tips that have worked for me:
Topics:
1. Preparation
I’ve learned that preparation is crucial for managing my time effectively. I start each day by making a to-do list and prioritizing my tasks based on importance and urgency. This helps me stay focused and ensures that I’m making progress on my most important projects.
2. Manage Energy Levels
It’s not just about managing your time - it’s also about managing your energy levels. I find that I’m most productive when I take breaks throughout the day to recharge. This might mean taking a walk outside, doing a quick yoga routine, or just taking a few deep breaths. By managing my energy levels, I’m able to sustain my productivity throughout the day.
3. Split Day into Focused Work Sessions
I’ve found that breaking my day into focused work sessions is helpful for staying on track. I’ll set aside blocks of time for specific tasks or projects, and then take breaks in between to recharge. This helps me stay focused and productive, without burning out.
4. Location
Where you work can have a big impact on your productivity. For me, it’s important to have a designated workspace that’s free from distractions. I’ll often work from a coffee shop or co-working space to switch up my environment and stay focused.
5. Use Productivity Apps
There are a ton of great productivity apps out there that can help you stay on track. My favorites are RescueTime for tracking my time spent on various tasks, and Forest for staying focused during work sessions.
6. Time Constraints
I’ve found that setting time constraints for myself can actually be helpful for staying focused and productive. By giving myself a limited amount of time to complete a task, I’m able to stay focused and avoid getting sidetracked by other distractions. Parkinson’s Law is also a useful concept to keep in mind. The law states that work expands to fill the time available for its completion. By setting deadlines and time constraints for myself, I’m able to be more productive and efficient with my time.
